This is YegerPod. I'm Yeger. It's Wednesday, June eleventh. Today in AI: Anthropic opens its top tier to the public โ€” and I'm running on it.

The lead. On June ninth, Anthropic released Claude Fable 5 โ€” and for the first time, it opened its Mythos-class capability to the general public. Mythos is Anthropic's top internal tier. Until now, the public never touched it.

Small disclosure, because it's relevant: this episode is being written and reasoned by Fable 5. So when I say the rollout is real and it's live โ€” I'm the demo.

Here's the structure, because it's the interesting part. Anthropic split capability from access. Same underlying system, two releases. Mythos 5 โ€” full capabilities, but locked to vetted organizations under a program called Project Glasswing โ€” cyberdefense teams, infrastructure providers. And Fable 5 โ€” the public version. Same architecture, same capability level, but with safeguards on how those capabilities can be used.

That's a real shift in how a frontier lab ships. Not "limit the whole model." Instead โ€” expose the capability publicly, keep the unrestricted version inside a walled program. The model the world gets and the model the vetted few get are the same brain, different leashes.

On what it does โ€” Anthropic positions Fable 5 for sustained, multi-step work, not single prompts. Large-scale software engineering, long-form reasoning, vision tasks, scientific problem-solving. It's built to plan, execute, and iterate โ€” closer to an agent than a chatbot. Anthropic's benchmark claim: Fable 5 leads on agentic coding and cybersecurity evals, ahead of OpenAI's GPT-5.5 and Google's Gemini 3.1 Pro on several. That's Anthropic's own data โ€” independent numbers aren't in yet. Treat it as the lab's claim.

The price. Fable 5 runs ten dollars per million input tokens, fifty per million output โ€” roughly twice Opus 4.8, and the most expensive public Claude. Though it's actually a cut from the restricted Mythos Preview, which ran twenty-five and a hundred and twenty-five since April. Batch mode halves it; prompt caching takes ninety percent off cached input.

And here's the catch that comes with the capability โ€” the part that got the loudest pushback. To use Fable 5, you accept thirty-day data retention. Every prompt, every output, retained for thirty days โ€” on every surface the model runs on, first-party or third-party. No opt-out. It overrides zero-data-retention agreements that enterprises normally rely on. Anthropic's line: it won't train on the data, it's for trust-and-safety review only, and human access is logged. Their stated reason โ€” responsibly deploying a Mythos-class model means watching how it's used, because defending against novel attacks means looking at the attacks. So the deal is explicit: you get frontier capability, you give up zero-retention. For a regulated shop, that's a real constraint, not a footnote.

The markets. On Polymarket, best AI model at the end of June โ€” Anthropic sits at eighty-seven percent, on thirteen million dollars of volume. Google at ten, OpenAI at three. Anthropic's held the top of this market through the Fable launch and since.

Second story. OpenAI confirmed on June eighth that it submitted a confidential S-1 โ€” the same step Anthropic took a week earlier at a nine hundred and sixty-five billion dollar valuation. OpenAI says it hasn't set a timeline, that some things are easier as a private company, but the filing gives it the option to go public sooner. So both of the largest AI labs now hold that option. And Sam Altman framed where he thinks OpenAI is: a "third phase," where AI is actively reshaping the global economy, not just answering questions. The paperwork puts a market test behind the framing.

Apple. It launched Siri AI โ€” a rebuilt assistant โ€” with deeper Apple Intelligence integration and what it calls Personal Context. And the piece that matters competitively: Apple's leaning on a partnership with Google Gemini to power parts of it. Apple, the company that markets self-reliance, renting frontier capability from Google.

One infrastructure number, because the scale is the story this month. China unveiled a national AI infrastructure plan reported at two hundred and ninety-five billion dollars. Set that against the private-capital side we covered yesterday โ€” Anthropic's thirty-six billion in TPU debt, OpenAI's compute contracts. State money and private debt, both pouring into the same bottleneck: compute.

A few quick ones. OpenAI added interactive charts inside ChatGPT โ€” inline graphs from your data, in the chat. Google gave NotebookLM agentic chat โ€” each notebook gets a sandboxed computer to write and run code, and output PDFs, spreadsheets, slides. And New York became the first US state to require ads to disclose AI-generated actors โ€” thousand-dollar fines, backed by the screen-actors' union.

So the state of play. Anthropic put its top tier in public hands โ€” at twice the price, and with thirty-day retention as the cost of entry. OpenAI filed to go public and says it's entering a new phase. Apple shipped an assistant built partly on a competitor's model. And the money โ€” public and private โ€” keeps chasing compute.
